[Thésaurus Mesh]ThérapeutiqueRésumé : Background
Despite a long-standing tradition of naturopathic physical therapy and hydrotherapy use in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, neither naturopathy, nor specific aspects of hydrotherapy have been tested for efficacy in the treatment of heel pain.
Methods
Patients (n = 20) were assigned to standard naturopathic physiotherapy care (NPC) with two adjuvant therapy groups: a control group (therapeutic ultrasound, n = 10), or alternating compresses (n = 10). Pain scores were measured before and after treatment using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and foot functionality was measured using the Foot Function Index (FFI).
Results
FFI reduced from 46.97 to 31.98 (p = 0.005) among normal protocol patients and from 49.72 to 21.35 (p = <0.001) among patients receiving the alternating compress protocol. Average VAS pain intensity in the seven days of treatment decreased from 3.53 to 2.53 cm (p = <0.001) among patients receiving NPC and from 4.09 to 2.61 cm (p = <0.001) amongst those receiving NPC plus alternating compresses. There was no significant difference in pain score reduction between the two groups (p = 0.206), but patients with alternating compresses as part of their treatment had significant improvements in foot functionality (p = 0.007).
Discussion
Naturopathic physical therapy significantly improves foot functionality and pain scores in heel pain. Additionally, alternating compresses improve foot functionality scores.

Methods: This surgical technique incorporates a calcium sulfate and hydroxyapatite (calcium phosphate) bone void filler acting as a carrier vehicle with either an antibiotic or an antifungal medicine, delivering this combination directly into the area of osteomyelitis. Results: The benefit of the PAD-T is reviewed with a case presentation of a successfully treated calcaneal osteomyelitis. Conclusions: No previously reported PAD-T using a simple bone cortex incision in the adjunctive treatment of osteomyelitis has been reported. The PAD-T safely and effectively uses a calcium sulfate and hydroxyapatite bone void filler carrier vehicle to deliver either an antibiotic or an antifungal medicine directly into the area of osteomyelitis Permalink : https://bibliotheque.helb-prigogine.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id= [article]Exemplaires

[Thésaurus Mesh]TalonMots-clés : Masse osseusse Résumé : Background: The calcaneus is the bone of the foot that first receives the impact of running, generating vibrations that might have a positive effect in modifying the trabecular bone mass. The objective of this study was to determine the variation in calcaneal bone density in runners during a 6-month training season, comparing it with a control sample. Methods: Bone density of the heel was measured in 33 male recreational runners by means of a contact ultrasonic bone analyzer. Measurements were made on three occasions during a training season: at the beginning, at 350 km, and at 700 km. All of the runners wore the same model of running shoes during this period. Measurements of bone density were also made in a control sample of 62 men who did not engage in physical exercise. Results: There was a significant decrease in mean calcaneal bone density over the course of the training season (from 86.1 dB/MHz to 83.2 dB/MHz; P ¼ .006), but no significant differences with the control sample value (from 80.7 dB/MHz to 81.1 dB/MHz; P ¼ .314). The runners’ body composition changed during the study period, with lean mass increasing and fat mass decreasing. Conclusions: Distance running seems to have a negative effect on calcaneal bone mass density during the course of a 700-km training season. [Thésaurus Mesh]ThérapeutiqueRésumé : Osteoid osteomas are most likely to occur in the talar neck and can be classified as cortical, cancellous, or subperiosteal according to the position of the tumor nidus. However, cases located on the bearing surface of the talus are rare. Herein, the patient presented with an osteoid osteoma on the bearing surface of the talus and achieved good curative effects with arthroscopic resection associated with autologous iliac crest graft.
