The mass was painful and disrupting ambulation, despite footwear modifications. He ultimately underwent excision of what was a determined to be a fibrolipoma, returning to his regular shoes and all activities. Plantar neoplasms, even when benign, can grow to sizes that can result in significant disability. If left untreated, particularly in individuals engaged in occupations requiring frequent standing or walking, excision of the mass will often require a more aggressive operative approach. will provide good functional outcomes which are maintained for over 5 years.
Method: Prospective study of 12 consecutive cases with a minimal 5-year follow-up were recruited from April
2008 to November 2010. Cases whom were mentally incompetent or those which required concomitant procedures
were excluded. Outcomes measures included the numeric pain rating scale, motor power strength, range
of motion, functional scoring using the AOFAS hindfoot score and patient’s self-assessment using the Foot and
Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS).
Result: No re-ruptures or sural nerve injured were identified after a minimal 5-year follow-up. Pain was minimal
at 0.5/10, calf power was 5/5 and ankle range was good (plantarflexion: 38°/dorsiflexion: 21°). The AOFAS
hindfoot score was 97.4 and all 5 sub-categories of the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) were good.
Conclusion: The 1.5 cm medial incision repair of the Achilles tendon is an economically sound surgical technique,
with minimal complications, which gives good medium length functional outcomes.

[Thésaurus Mesh]Procédures de chirurgie opératoireMots-clés : correction de la phalange proximale ostéotomie d'Akin ostéotomie de Scarf Résumé : Background
One of the most common supplementary techniques for hallux valgus (HV) surgery is proximal phalanx correction proposed by Akin. This study aims to determine the influence of the Akin procedure on the outcome of scarf osteotomy for HV correction.
Methods
This prospective randomized study on 145 patients diagnosed with moderate to severe HV who underwent a scarf corrective osteotomy was carried out between 2011 and 2016. Patients were divided into two groups based on the additional Akin correction of the proximal phalanx. Postoperative follow-up was 2 years. The patients underwent an examination performed by two orthopedic surgeons twice—at the primary visit (qualification for the surgery and the study) and at the final follow-up. In between, the patients remained under the care of one of the physicians. Data collected included biometric records, radiographs (eg, hallux valgus angle [HVA]), intermetatarsal angle, American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Hallux Metatarsophalangeal Index, and visual analog scale score for pain and satisfaction.
Results
There was a significant difference in comparison of the HVA between the groups at the final follow-up. Other collected parameters were similar (American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Hallux Metatarsophalangeal Index, level of pain, and satisfaction). The complication rate was also similar between the groups. We observed comparable rates of reconsent to the treatment and foot appearance satisfaction in both groups.
Conclusions
Regardless of additional Akin correction, the outcome was comparable. Despite a significant difference in HVA score, pain and satisfaction level were similar. Based on our results, the Akin procedure may not provide substantial benefit as an adjunct to the scarf procedure.Permalink : https://bibliotheque.helb-prigogine.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id= [article]Exemplaires
