[Thésaurus Mesh]Syndrome fémoroÂpatellaireRésumé : Background
Altered foot loading during weightbearing is suggested to play a role in the development of patellofemoral pain (PFP). This study aimed to determine foot-loading characteristics associated with PFP by assessing center of pressure (COP) during single-limb loading in individuals with PFP compared with noninjured controls.
Methods
Thirty recreationally active patients with PFP and 30 noninjured control participants had barefoot plantar pressure assessed during single-limb squats (SLSs) from which COP parameters (COP velocity and COP index) were obtained. Groups were compared using independent t tests.
Results
Individuals with PFP demonstrated a greater COP index (P = .042), indicating a more lateral foot-loading pattern, and exhibited increased overall COP velocity (P = .013) and anteroposterior COP velocity during SLSs compared with control participants (P = .033).
Conclusions
Greater lateral foot loading and increased COP velocity during SLSs demonstrated by individuals with PFP may indicate reduced dynamic balance in this patient group, which may be implicated in the development of PFP.Note de contenu : https://doi.org/10.7547/18-070 Permalink : https://bibliotheque.helb-prigogine.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id= [article]Exemplaires

Clinical measurement study.
Background
The Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Patella (VISA-P), originally developed in English, assesses the severity of patellar tendinopathy symptoms. To date, no French version of the questionnaire exists.
Objectives
The aim of our study was to translate the VISA-P into French and verify its psychometric properties.
Methods
The translation and cultural adaptation were performed according to international recommendations in 6 steps: initial translation, translation merging, back translation to the original language, use of an expert committee to reach a prefinal version, test of the prefinal version, and expert committee appraisal of a final version. Afterward, the psychometric properties of the final French version (VISA-PF) were assessed in 92 subjects, divided into 3 groups: pathological subjects (n = 28), asymptomatic subjects (n = 22), and sports-risk subjects (n = 42).
Results
All members of the expert committee agreed with the final version. On a scale ranging from 0 to 100, with 100 representing an asymptomatic subject, the average ± SD scores on the VISA-PF were 53 ± 17 for the pathological group, 99 ± 2 for the healthy group, and 86 ± 14 for the sports-risk group. The test-retest reliability of the VISA-PF was excellent, with good internal consistency. Correlations between the VISA-PF and divergent validity of the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) were low, and the correlation coefficient values measured between the VISA-PF scores and converged items of the SF-36 were higher.
Conclusion
The VISA-PF is understandable, valid, and suitable for French-speaking patients with patellar tendinopathy.Permalink : https://bibliotheque.helb-prigogine.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id= [article]Exemplaires

Titre : Effects of Patellofemoral Taping on Patellofemoral Joint Alignment and Contact Area During Weight Bearing Type de document : article de périodique Auteurs : Kai-Yu Ho ; [et al.], Auteur Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p.115-123 Langues : Anglais (eng) Descripteurs (mots clés) : [Thésaurus Mesh]Articulation fémoropatellaire Résumé : Study Design Controlled laboratory study.
Background
Although it has been theorized that patellofemoral joint (PFJ) taping can correct patellar malalignment, the effects of PFJ taping techniques on patellar alignment and contact area have not yet been studied during weight bearing.
Objective
To examine the effects of 2 taping approaches (Kinesio and McConnell) on PFJ alignment and contact area.
Methods
Fourteen female subjects with patellofemoral pain and PFJ malalignment participated. Each subject underwent a pretaping magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan session and 2 MRI scan sessions after the application of the 2 taping techniques, which aimed to correct lateral patellar displacement. Subjects were asked to report their pain level prior to each scan session. During MRI assessment, subjects were loaded with 25% of body weight on their involved/more symptomatic leg at 0°, 20°, and 40° of knee flexion. The outcome measures included patellar lateral displacement (bisect-offset [BSO] index), mediolateral patellar tilt angle, patellar height (Insall-Salvati ratio), contact area, and pain. Patellofemoral joint alignment and contact area were compared among the 3 conditions (no tape, Kinesio, and McConnell) at 3 knee angles using a 2-factor, repeated-measures analysis of variance. Pain was compared among the 3 conditions using the Friedman test and post hoc Wilcoxon signed-rank tests.
Results
Our data did not reveal any significant effects of either McConnell or Kinesio taping on the BSO index, patellar tilt angle, Insall-Salvati ratio, or contact area across the 3 knee angles, whereas knee angle had a significant effect on the BSO index and contact area. A reduction in pain was observed after the application of the Kinesio taping technique.
Conclusion
In a weight-bearing condition, this preliminary study did not support the use of PFJ taping as a medial correction technique to alter the PFJ contact area or alignment of the patella.Permalink : https://bibliotheque.helb-prigogine.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id= [article]Exemplaires
