Vision oculaire
The process in which light signals are transformed by the PHOTORECEPTOR CELLS into electrical signals which can then be transmitted to the brain.
The transducing of light energy to afferent nerve impulses in the retinal rods and cones. After light photons are absorbed by the visual photopigments, the signal is transmitted to the outer segment membrane by the cyclic GMP second messenger system, where it closes the sodium channels. This channel gating ultimately generates an action potential in the inner retina.

[Thésaurus Mesh]Vision oculaireRésumé : More than 90% of the sensory information that we use for driving is estimated to be visual. However, there is ongoing debate regarding the extent to which different ocular conditions and types of visual impairment affect driving performance and which visual functions are most important for safe driving. My program of research has sought to address these questions using a range of experimental approaches including measures of real-world driving performance on a closed-circuit driving course and under in-traffic conditions. This article provides a current overview of how visual impairment affects driving ability and safety and also highlights the visual challenges of nighttime driving, including the visibility of vulnerable road users, based on the wider research literature, as well as providing a snapshot of some of my own studies. Emphasis is placed on those studies that are relevant to assessing a patient's visual fitness to drive, as well as providing appropriate advice regarding the impact of common visual impairments on driving ability and safety. [Thésaurus HELB]:Optique:PrismeRésumé : ABSTRACT: On the occasion of being awarded the Prentice Medal, I was asked to summarize my translational journey. Here I describe the process of becoming a low-vision rehabilitation clinician and researcher, frustrated by the unavailability of effective treatments for some conditions. This led to decades of working to understand patients' needs and the complexities and subtleties of their visual systems and conditions. It was followed by many iterations of developing vision aids and the techniques needed to objectively evaluate their benefit. I specifically address one path: the invention and development of peripheral prisms to expand the visual fields of patients with homonymous hemianopia, leading to our latest multiperiscopic prism (mirror-based design) with its clear 45° field-of-view image shift. [Thésaurus Mesh]Vision oculaireRésumé : SIGNIFICANCE: Planning for the effective delivery of eye care, on all levels, depends on an accurate and detailed knowledge of the optometric workforce and an understanding of demographic/behavioral trends to meet future needs of the public. PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to assess the current and future supply of doctors of optometry and to examine in-depth trends related to (1) demographic shifts, (2) sex-based differences, (3) differences in practice behaviors in between self-employed and employed optometrists, and (4) the concept of additional capacity within the profession. METHODS: The 2017 National Optometry Workforce Survey (31 items) was distributed to 4050 optometrists, randomly sampled from a population of 45,033 currently licensed and practicing optometrists listed in the American Optometric Association's Optometry Master Data File. A stratified sampling method was applied to the population of optometrists using primary license state, age, and sex as variables to ensure a representative sample. RESULTS: With a response rate of 29% (1158 responses), the sample ensured a 95% confidence interval with a margin of error of Permalink : https://bibliotheque.helb-prigogine.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id= [article]Exemplaires
